Hello! My name is Brian, and I’m a UX Researcher. Welcome to my portfolio website.
I am a UX Researcher with interests in accessibility, education, and music. My approach to UX combines user interviews; usability testing; inclusive, accessible design (WCAG); and prototyping (Figma). I enjoy seeing how individuals react to technology and spend my time thinking of creative ways to make experiences better.
My strengths include communicating with users and designing solutions that benefit people with different abilities. Among my key skills are: Accessibility/WCAG; Requirements Gathering; User Interviews; Usability Testing.
University of Houston, Instructional Designer III
2019 – Present
I am currently an instructional designer in the campuswide office for Faculty Departmental Instructional Support. I conduct interviews with faculty about their needs and processes related to educational technology. I advise professors on how to deliver accessible content to students, by sharing best practices and tutorials on tools within the LMS. My user guides cover topics ranging from AI to accessibility and attract thousands of views. I create, host, and manage weekly trainings attended by dozens of professors and academic staff.
University of Maryland, Systems Analyst
2013 – 2019
At the Graduate School of the University of Maryland, I gathered requirements and implemented new systems to streamline submission and review of student applications to graduate programs. To improve UX for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, I acted as a liaison with programmers and nontechnical users, delivered data feeds, and researched technical solutions. I worked in a team that implemented a new website and student progress system serving thousands of users.
Johns Hopkins University, IT Lead
2012–2013
As the lead IT analyst in the Affairs and Admissions Office, I maintained the graduate admissions application system and websites using PHP and WordPress.
